We've become accustomed to hearing words like representation and liberty. But if someone asked us to define them, could we actually give them a good definition? What about words that are a little less common, like Tory or Whig? You might find yourself struggling a bit more with those.
But these words were not simply buzzwords to American colonists. These words were the reasons that colonists took up arms to fight against Great Britain. Liberty meant more than freedom in a general sense, it was a God-given right to govern themselves fairly and justly. Representation meant having a voice in the laws that governed their lives.
